After behaviour training, dog sports are a real passion of mine. Currently competing in scent work at SWUK L6&L7(with a few rosettes!) and Entry Level NNA trials (first trial was a Win!) with my Staffies Ghost & Bella, competing in Disc Dog, K9 Toss & Fetch League with Envy, Joker, Ghost & now retired Blitz, Mantrailing with Ghost, training for Mondioring with Joker & Envy, and Tracking and Obedience with fosters destined for work, I certainly keep myself busy.

Dog Sports are a fabulous way of giving your dog an outlet for their natural behaviours, and I have found them to be key in long-term behaviour change alongside domestic & behaviour training for not only my own dogs but fosters and clients’ dogs too. Dog sports are also a fun way to meet like-minded people, and to change up your training. With the ability to work dogs one at a time, in all but Canicross (space can be given easily!), all the sports I offer are suitable for reactive dogs too!

Scentwork

Harnessing your dog’s natural ability to scent discriminate by teaching your dog to find a target scent and communicate when they’ve found it, through pairing a high value reward with the scent itself and building an indication behaviour.

Mantrailing

Working as a team with your dog to find a “missing person” by following the scent trail from a scent article they leave behind. As a Mantrailing UK certified instructor of 3years, I use the Kocher method for trailing, focusing on finding the right reward for each dog, combined with intensity trails, to keep motivation at the highest high for each dog handler team.

Tracking

Teaching your dog to follow human scent on the ground and indicating on items that may be left on the track. Enjoyable for the handler to watch their dog express a natural behaviour whilst working! Having taught several fosters tracking foundations that have gone on to become fully operational Police, HMP and private security working dogs, I have gained skills to problem solve, as well as building solid foundations. UK Tracking Dog Association criteria is what we will work towards, unless you prefer different eg IGP style.

Disc Dog

Frisbee throwing social team with a dog problem taking part in the K9 Toss & Fetch League each season, competing against other teams worldwide. We meet weekly and are a competitive but non-competitive social disc dog team. You can even score points, by rolling the frisbee for your dog!

Canicross

Cross-country running with your dog in a harness attached to a running belt with a bungee line. Competitive & Social sport for all abilities, a great way to keep fit with your dog and motivated within a club environment, especially during winter when the warm sofa is calling!
